How to convert WebP to JPG

  1. Drop your WebP file into the box above, or click it to browse your device. You can add several files at once.
  2. Leave the output format on JPG, or switch it if you changed your mind. Quality is set high by default; lower it only if you need a smaller file.
  3. Download the new JPG file. Each result shows the original size, the new size and the percentage saved.

WebP and JPG are not interchangeable - they were designed to solve different problems. WebP was built by Google for the web. At matching visual quality it usually produces files 25-34% smaller than JPEG, and it still supports transparency. JPG is the long-standing lossy photo format. It throws away detail the human eye is unlikely to notice, which is why it stays so small. Converting from WebP to JPG makes sense when you need the widest possible compatibility with old software, forms and email systems.

WebP supports transparency but JPG does not, so every transparent pixel becomes solid white in the converted file. If you need a transparent result, choose PNG or WebP as the target instead. And because JPG is a lossy format, PixSquash lets you trade a little quality for a much smaller file.

Everything here runs locally. Your WebP file is decoded by your own browser and re-encoded by it too - nothing is ever uploaded to a server, which is what makes the tool both fast and private.

Frequently asked questions

Does converting WebP to JPG reduce quality?
A little, by design. JPG is a lossy format, so some detail is discarded permanently. At PixSquash's default quality setting the difference is normally invisible, and the file becomes dramatically smaller. If you need a mathematically exact copy, convert to PNG instead.
Will transparency be preserved in the JPG file?
No. JPG has no alpha channel, so transparent pixels have to become something. PixSquash fills them with white. If you need transparency, convert to PNG or WebP instead.
Can I convert several WebP files at once?
Yes. Drop as many WebP files as you like onto the box above; PixSquash converts them all in the browser and gives you a separate download for each one.
Are my WebP files uploaded anywhere?
No. There is no upload step at all. The conversion happens on your own device using the Canvas API, so your images never leave your computer - which also means it works with sensitive or confidential files.
